Kindness of people

Today was my first foray into the world of Freecycle! Wow!
I put on a wanted add for anyone with any terracotta plant pots etc and within 1 hour I had an offer from someone 5 miles away for loads. Just went up to get them this evening and I am amazed! I have a car full of terracotta pots, porcelain pots, massive ones, medium ones, strawberry planters. Now I love freecycle. Tomorrow I will get them out and give them a good clean (weather permitting) and take some photos.
What a wonderful service, and how nice of people to just give these things away, it is heartwarming.

Another kindness this week was that someone gave me an i-phone. Now I must admit that I was a bit blase about this gift at first, because I am not actually that interested in them, but it was only after the amazement of some of my friends that I realise just what a gift this is and how much it is worth. My friend could probably have got £250 for it if he tried to sell it but he was happy for me to have it. As much as anything, it now means that when I go away I can take it with me and connect to the internet and keep up with all your lovely blogs.

Being at home has been blissfull. I have two days away working this week and then back for the weekend, so no complaints here.

Did I mention that I have booked the man to do my decking and put up my trellis? That will be done in the next few weeks which really excites me. I love my garden more than I can say and getting the structure in will now enable me to get in some of the plants I really want. Meanwhile, my roses are thriving, got lots of buds on one, my apple tree is in rude health and my potatoes peas and onions are all happy as larry. The only thing not that happy are my wonderful tomatoes. They desperately need sun and are looking so sad. I will be heartbroken if they don't perform well because tomatoes are my favourite thing!

Well tomorrow i will try and get some photos going and show what is happening out there and my lovely new pots.

    1. I didn't even see Paris John, well the Eiffel tower in the distance for a few seconds. All I really saw was a hotel and a stage. Mind you, I photographed that, because it was a big impressive outdoor sort of venue and I was all mik'd up with Madonna mikes - a new one for me!

  2. Yay for you! Freecycle is awesome!!! We have that here as well. It's great to receive and a great way to give away stuff you don't need either. You know, honestly I never thought about asking for clay pots though, that's great, I might just have to do that too.

I can hear your happiness in your writing. Glad to hear it.

Enjoy the iPhone, I'll admit to being a bit of a tech geek and I love my iPhone (and I have a first gen iPad as well). It's a great way to keep up with blogs and I use it when I'm out at a store if I want to look up a plant or a vegetable or something like that. They are much more useful that you might realize.

Congrats again, can't wait to see pictures of your yard, and that deck is going to be wonderful.

    1. Well I've been getting the freecycle email for a while but never really explored it til now. I must say, very impressed and the man who gave me the pots was so nice.
As for the i-phone, I really am NOT a techno geek, but it is lovely and very useful with travelling so much. They are still dead expensive here so wouldn't have considered one, mind you, all I seem have done so far is play 'draw something' with friends! It's a great time waster.

    1. There are some gorgeous people out there. Now I need to go through my garage and see what I can give away to people - you reap what you sow after all.

  5. Yes, a wonderful concept is Freecycle, it's amazing what would have gone to land-fill or cluttering somebody's garage / attic if it wasn't for this idea.
We've had some stuff that we needed, and given stuff that we no longer needed to someone who did.
It seems to work well in this area (Cumbria)

    1. Well I am more impressed than I can express, it is a wonderful service and I will be using it more to both give and search.

  6. Dan, bare in mind that terracotta pots need to be watered very well during dry spells. They evaporate water quickly.
And they will need protection from frost damage during winter. Invest in some bubble wrap and old sacking if you can. You don`t want to lose those pots in the frosty winters. They will crack and fall apart if not protected or taken indoors.

    1. I will, I am a good waterer and I will put them into the garage over winter. I have lost pots that way before (and it does get cold up here on this hill!

  7. Great news about getting the pots- there are some very generous people out there. The i-phone was an incredibly generous gift - what a lovely friend!

    1. I am so happy with them. I have planted one up with tomatoes and another with a minature ivy which I am going to weave into a shape around an old metal coathanger.

  8. Yaaay freecycle! Never got anything from there, but the boyfriend got some books he needed for uni that someone had taking up room on a shelf!

I can't decide if my tomatoes need more light or not. They're growing tall but not quite as bushy as I'd like. It's such a drama to take my 16 plants up and down the stairs and into the garden though!!

    1. Tomatoes love light and sun, but i can understand that 16 plants up and down stairs would be a major pain. Sunny windowsill?

  9. Freecycle/ Freegle are one of the few things that re-instills my faith in the human race! That and friends who give away i-phones instead of selling them...and good bloggers of course! ;-)

    Enjoy your freebies.

  10. I have a little deal with myself that whatever I "inherit" from freecycle must also be donated for free when I don't need it anymore:)

Here in Hamburg people very often just leave out a box of stuff saying "please take", which I think is lovely because it means your neighbours get first dibs!
