1 weeks down.

I'm home for a long weekend - good stuff. My first week working in London has gone quite well. Not too hectic as my schedule gave me a lot of time off, I have to admit that I didn't really use my time wisely, I just watched dvd's and read books under a duvet most of the time but it was my way of relaxing and getting through it all. Luckily I was given today off, so I drove home last night arriving at 12.30, 6 hours sleep and now I am enjoying being home until at least Sunday night. Can't complain (unless it is about the shocking price of petrol).
I managed to 'acquire' a free set of wooden shelves that fit perfectly in the remaining gap in my greenhouse too, so shoved them in the car last night.
When I stepped out of the car in my driveway at half past 12 last night I felt myself relax totally and the smell of the air, the very freshness hit me like an intoxicating drug. It is funny, but after a day or so you find you don't really notice how polluted the air is in the city, but as soon as you are back among the trees and countryside it really becomes very clear. People often describe cities as being 'vibrant' or 'energetic', but the real power is in the energy of the country air and the vibrancy comes from the myriad plant and wildlife around me, I found it reviving like a tonic.
It's pouring with rain though :-(   Ah well, you can't have it all.

    1. The last time I really remember feeling terrible lonely was about 10 years ago when I lived alone in a grotty flat in one of London's most depressed areas. lots of my friends were either moving in with each other, or moving away from the city entirely and there were times when I felt very depressed and alone with little to do and no one to do it with.
Today, I rarely feel lonely, I find it a state that can come, sometimes, out of boredom and I am rarely bored. I have perhaps always been a bit of a loner, yet I have a very surprising social side to me when with others. I'm certainly self-contained.

    2. Being self-contained and self-reliant is a good thing. I don`t think there is anything wrong with living alone. Some might say it has it`s purks, as you do not have to pander to other folk`s desires and needs. And you are quite right in saying that loneliness often springs from boredom. Keeping occupied and busy during the day will never leave you feeling lonely.

  2. Ah, good clean country air, can't beat it. I always notice when I am in London, even for the day. The smell is horrible and my skin and hair are always dirty.

  3. I so agree..I hate going into the City (last time was years ago when I took the boys to Foo Fighters in Hyde Park) I find all the hustle and bustle quite oppressive and there are just TOO many people..maybe I'm just antisocial LOL! I also live alone and never get lonely (mind you, I Do talk to the animals:o) )

  4. The first thing I have to do in the morning is open the back door and let the cats out. Even when living in the countryside the morning air is still the freshest and sweetest part of the day. Drink it all in Dan, while you have the chance. Good find with your shelves.

  8. Enjoy and relax on your weekend off, Dan. Fill your lungs with lots of fresh air to keep you going when you return to The Big City. I took a coach-load of Cubs up from Cornwall to see The Royal Tournament one year - their first comments on alighting from the coach was , "Poo, it smells awful!!" (It did, too!)
Escape from the rain in your greenhouse ;)

  10. Sometimes it's just nice to not do much, and relax with a good book, a luxury that is seldom thought of when gardening season is in full swing, so I think it was a good choice of activity.
Enjoy your moments in your cosy home.

  13. I live in the city and I wish I live in the country, but we can't afford to move. I choose to avoid the town center as much as possible and concentrate my time on my four allotments...this way I can pretend I live in the countryside lol

    1. Yes I get depressed being in a town but its not a nice remote town its next to a major city. I always dream of the country side especially now im pregnant but when baby comes we have to move backto the city so child will not be bored to tears here and closer to my family. But i would move to country if we could afford to but we cant even afford a car! Although the thought is very depressing lol

  15. That's exactly how I used to feel after commuting from Pennsylvania into New York City every day for work. I couldn't wait to get home at around 8:30 just to smell the country air and to look up into the sky and actually be able to see the stars!
