Roses and Champagne

As promised, here are the photos of my roses. Such a beautiful colour I think. This is the rose bush that my mum gave me for my 39th birthday.

The roses are massive, as big as a fist.

Last night I opened one of the small bottles of elderflower champagne, it was very fizzy and very delicious! So easy to make and a lovely cheap drink. I would definitely do it again!

    1. Meant to add that a single rose head would look gorgeous floating in a shallow bowl/deep plate.

  2. You're right it is a beautiful colour - is it fragrant? Elderflower champagne my favourite - but is best drunk on a hot summers day - not many of those about this year.

  3. Not many hot days about at all for drinking elderflower champagne out in the garden, shame that. Oh yes, I forgot to say, it is indeed a fragrant variety, smells wonderful, although the rain is dampening even that down a little. Why oh why did I not cut the grass yesterday when I had the chance?

  5. What a super gift to be gifted with, I adore the old fashioned fragrant types of roses, I can't resist bringing them into the house. Enjoy your fizzy . You could always turn your rose petals into lovely cordials or jams!

  6. I am sure the insects liked the fact you didnt cut the grass. There are positives to everything! And you have a lot, beautiful rose and your champagne made by you. Lovely!

  7. Such a glorious rose, no wonder you love to see it in full bloom and such a lovely sight to come home to.

I've never tried or made elderflower champagne but I have added it to my list of things to do x

  9. The problem with turning rose petals into something is that you have lose the rose to do so, I couldn't bare to pick them when they are in all their glory at the moment! Maybe when I have hundreds of them. The yellow rose at the front has flowered now too, although only 2 flowers and I am still waiting with baited breath for the first of the buds to open of the climbing rose out the front. I now want more climbing things. I recommend the elderflower champagne to one and all, it is good, cheap and delicious.

  10. Roses are my favourite flower of summer. I will be doing a blog post about those soon too. Love your champagne glass I've been drinking my elderflower fizz in wine glasses. I need to get round the charity shops and look for something more suitable!

    1. Oh yes, I am very proud of my champagne glasses! They are very old and were given to me by an old lady when I was a boy and I have kept them ever since, mostly in storage until I moved here. There is a wonderful old elegance to them that is somehow missing from the more modern shaped flutes.
