Normal service will resume.

Hello everyone,

Sorry about my lack of posts this last week, my dad went to hospital to have a quadruple bypass and so I have been rather caught up. All is well and he is home and recovering now.

I have come home for the weekend and am just looking into the possibility of greenhouses for a bit of fun.

    Best wishes to your father, but a worrying time while it's happening, I know...

    As for Greenhouses, try looking at polytunnels as an alternative. Cheaper, and no danger of broken glass, which is a real pain (pane)to clear up out of soil should you get a breakage. Polytunnels ARE more fun, and they do quite small sizes.

    I remember you saying a while back that your dad needed an operation, so worrying isn't it. Glad he is recovering well. Remember though to take care of yourself as caring for others can put a strain on you that you are often not aware of.

    Sorry about your dad, hope he recovering well.
    Yes, try a polytunnel (DIY) first, greenhouses are so pricey for what they are.

    On greenhouse notes, I have a mini greenhouse, which was about £20 I think. It's about 5.5 ft tall, 1.5 ft deep and 3 ft wide. Ish.

    Wishing your Dad a complete recovery. This will take longer than you expect and will be quite hard for everyone. But he has a future.
    Do what you can to grow close to your father now. Get him to talk about his experiences through life. Record them and make some into a small book. This is social history and lifestyles become lost over time. You do not know what a Dad means to you until you do not have one any more.
    You should be able to build a simple greenhouse with a frame made of poly pipe or timber and clear vinyl roof and sides. If you have shelves on two sides only you should be able to position it to get the best sunlight. The shelves do not have to be joined to the framework.
    Bryallen's greenhouse sounds like a bargain.

    Don't worry, families come first. Think about scavenging some wood for your greenhouse and build your own. Those plasticky ones are no good, get battered in the wind and take off like a kite.
