Moving on.

Thank you for my good luck and support last night, it went really well and I thoroughly enjoyed the evening.

Now today, believe it or not, I start rehearsals for another opera entirely! Altogether for the two operas there will be 35 performances.

So I have until a fortnight from Saturday and then I go home and do all my travelling and performances from my home base as all rehearsals will be finished. Performances drag on until October, but I will be home lots so I am happy that it is nearly time.

I wonder what I have been missing in the garden? There has been some sun and lots of rain so I imagine first of all I will have grass like a meadow. It was a carpet of dandelions before its last cut a week and a bit ago and imagine they have all come back with a vengeance. Its a shame really, because I think the dandelions are actually rather pretty.

My seedlings were hit and miss when I was last there. Some of the tomatoes are doing quite well, others are still a bit behind. Most of the cucumbers seemed to be dead, but let's see if they survive.

The chillis and peppers are growing but, oh so slowly.

I am growing marigolds to put in with the tomatoes and they are doing ok.

I've never grown leeks before and I think I went overboard, It looks like grass!

My mum is looking after a tray of my tomatoes and they are doing much better - the human contact element, I am sure.

Next time I will show you what has been going on in the garden and soon there will be a puppies update.

  1. Pleased to hear it went well Dan. Our chillis and peppers are slow too , despite being in the greenhouse. J said it was actually cold in there a few days ago.Rain and some sunshine definitely makes for grass like a meadow - my front lawn looks a tad meadow like.I think that might get dug up too and replaced with plants- something more cottage garden looking even if I do live in a 1950s bungalow!

    1. Cottage garden is my ultimate aim. In fact I just got a good book in oxfam about creating a cottage garden style.

  2. remember to "puddle" your leaks in rather than plant them

    1. Is that where you stick a finger in the earth, put the leek in and fill the hole with water?

  3. Best of luck with your singing, it's wonderful to have a talent you can enjoy and also support yourself with! I have marigold and tomato seedlings sprouting outside - remember to nip flowerheads off and sprinkle around your garden, so many will come back the next year. And leave a (squirrel-nibbled, usually!) bad tomato or two on the ground, for seedlings next year. I love free plants!

    1. I am new to the idea of using the seeds and letting things self seed. Have been reading about it, definitely going to remember to do al those things.

  4. Glad all went well with your opening night. I'm sure your plants will benefit from you being there but you can only do what you can. Not long to go now til you are home.

    1. Only 2 weeks! Mind you, I am not home for long, before I am go away to do some performances, still, it seems different, because I will always be going home after.

  5. Too funny about the dandelions. I often feel that way about some of the 'weeds' growing at the farm. Some of them how little tiny flowers, purple ones, yellow ones, white ones and every time I mow, I feel a twinge of guilt.

Glad all went well and I know you're excited to move on to the next phase. Every step brings you closer to your destination, right?

    1. Yes indeed, every step. I can't wait to get properly stuck in with the garden.

  6. Hi just found your blog, like your "about me" sounds a lot like us only we are on a plan that has 9 1/2 years left. I have been on a "is it a want or a need" for 2 years now this has helped with the save side! We raise a lot of our veggies also and have our animals that we love. I also put the marigolds in between tomatoes and your leeks look great! :)
